A journey spanning almost eighty years has transformed Cooling Brothers, founded in 1946 as a modest workshop that produced glass signs, into a giant within the sector, thanks to targeted investments and a future-oriented vision.
Founded in the post-war period with the ambition of creating glass signs, display systems, and architectural panels, Cooling Brothers has been able to reinvent itself, overcoming the challenges of time and embracing the principle of innovation. The decisive turning point came in 1992 with its acquisition by a private equity group, led by the current General Manager, Paul King.
Under his leadership, the company not only changed headquarters but also embarked on an ambitious technological modernization program. As King emphasizes, innovation is not a simple requirement, but “the foundation of everything we do at Cooling Brothers.” A belief that has translated into the adoption of globally recognized FOREL machinery and the implementation of cutting-edge techniques in lamination, digital printing, and insulating glass production. A path that demonstrates how foresight and investment in technology can transform a small entity into a benchmark for the entire sector.
By 2004, the original plant had already doubled in size, and with it came a new tempering furnace, CNC machines, and cutting benches for laminated glass.
Foresight is a distinctive feature of Cooling Brothers’ investment strategy. Another decisive moment came in 2007 when a conversation with Forel revealed emerging trends in Europe, such as double-chamber glass, custom lamination, and photovoltaic glass. This insight prompted the Australian company to proactively invest in the infrastructure and know-how necessary to bring these capabilities to market well before local demand was sufficiently defined.
2009 also marked the installation of a customized lamination line and a latest-generation digital printer, which produced printed glass with ceramic inks. The Forel laminating line opened new opportunities in the bespoke architectural glass sector, allowing the use of tempered laminated glass for applications such as canopies, facades, glass floors, and safety glass.
The partnership with FOREL was sealed in January 2024 with the installation of a High Tech insulating glass line equipped with a thermoplastic applicator and a robot for high-precision automatic sealing.
“Our collaboration has been based on mutual trust, performance, and shared innovation for almost twenty years,” says Paul King. FOREL’s ability to offer complete and cutting-edge solutions has been crucial. FOREL machinery has allowed Cooling Brothers to enter new markets, from customized high-performance solutions to edge processing lines and advanced automation in the insulating glass world.
“Minimal downtime and consistent machine performance have played a crucial role in keeping our operations efficient and our delivery times competitive.” In a sector characterized by minimal tolerances and unpostponable deadlines, the reliability of machinery proves to be an invaluable competitive advantage.
However, innovation is not only future-oriented; it is also deeply rooted in listening to the customer. Cooling Brothers integrates customer feedback into its technological roadmap, transforming market challenges into opportunities for improvement and innovation. The combination of global vision and attention to local feedback ensures that every investment, including FOREL machinery, generates long-term value.
A diversified product portfolio for an unrivalled reputation.
Cooling Brothers serves the entire Australian market with a diversified product portfolio, from tempered and laminated glass to high-performance, digitally printed, and custom curved glass. Their reputation is built on the ability to provide high-quality products with fast delivery times and meticulous attention to finishing details.
Among the many successful projects carried out, we must certainly mention the HMAS Perth memorial, which stands out for its size and importance. It is an extraordinary installation in the shape of a ship’s bow: the project, which required years of planning and close collaboration with other external stake holders, tested all of Cooling Brothers’ skills and capabilities from artistic design to complex lamination and digital printing. This project inaugurated in the spring of 2025, was not only an opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of FOREL technology but also the craftsmanship and expertise of the Cooling Brothers team. Glass is the protagonist, a canvas for visual narration, merging battle scenes with crew portraits to emotionally connect visitors with the ship’s history. The result is a historic glass tribute that embodies respect, resilience, and national honor.
The future: continuous growth and technical excellence
For over two decades, the partnership between Cooling Brothers and FOREL has represented a pillar of innovation, reliability, and mutual growth. This collaboration is not simply a supplier-customer relationship but a true strategic synergy that has allowed both companies to push beyond the boundaries of what is possible in the sector.
For the future, Cooling Brothers is committed to continuing to innovate in every aspect of glass production, focusing on flexibility, delivery times, and distribution throughout Australia. With strategic locations in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, the company is well-positioned for continuous growth.
